Subaru drive nets Meals on Wheels $10,000

"A collaboration between Meals on Wheels of Chemung County, Simmons-Rockwell Subaru and Subaru owners across the region ended this week with a $10,000 grant awarded to Meals on Wheels.

It was part of the national "Share the Love" event, which fostered partnerships between local Meals on Wheels programs and Subaru dealerships.

Share the Love ran from Nov. 19 to Jan. 3. Subaru donated $250 for every new Subaru sold or leased during that period to the customer's choice of one of five charities, including Meals on Wheels.

The grants from Meals on Wheels Association of America ranged from $250 to $35,000.

On Wednesday, Meals on Wheels Executive Director Darlene Ike announced that the local program was awarded $10,000.

The award exceeded expectations at Simmons-Rockwell and Meals on Wheels, she said, adding, "It was beyond our wildest dreams."

Throughout December, Subaru owners and Simmons-Rockwell employees delivered meals across the region.

"Together, we have demonstrated to our community the level of commitment that Meals On Wheels of Chemung County, Subaru, the employees, families and customer base of Simmons-Rockwell Subaru all have, to keep our program and services going strong" Ike said." [Read more]

New Subaru XV launched in Bahrain

"Motor City, the sole distributor of Subaru in Bahrain, has announced the arrival of Subaru’s all new XV, a sub-compact SUV with a stylish, highly distinctive exterior design.

Designed by Subaru for urban adventure, the new XV is perfectly suited to exciting, lively, yet stress free use in the city, said a statement.

Powered by 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder new Subaru Boxer engine, Subaru has balanced optimal performance factors for enjoyable driving. Together with the adoption of the new Lineartronic (CVT) and a newly developed “Auto Start Stop System”, the fuel efficiency has further improved, it said.

Also, it is fully equipped with Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), which is an advanced stability control system that automatically senses steering and braking inputs to help keep the vehicle on the driver’s intended path.

Yaser A Qader Saeed, general manager, Motor City, said: “We are thrilled to have the new Subaru XV in Bahrain as it would perfectly satisfy the needs of the city persona of Bahrain, targeting the young and adventurous prospects with its trendy exterior design, stylish and roomy interior and hi-tech safety features to combine ‘Enjoyment & Peace of Mind’.

“Subaru continues to establish its niche position internationally by manufacturing unique cars with advanced features while the brand is supported locally by class leading customer support and aftersales service,” Yaser added.

The new design combines a stylish, flowing form with a high body and side cladding that enhances the sense of functionality of SUV. Subaru at Home in the City and in the Wild

Handout
"The XV Concept is a fun urban crossover that Subaru says will elevate driving enjoyment to new levels. The concept behind the new XV design is a cross between the “traditionally adventurous face of Subaru” and the urban lifestyle associated with the crossover genre, more typically known as an “urban adventure” vehicle.

Although Subaru says the XV Concept is adventure-capable in the wilderness, drivers will feel at home in the city as this concept vehicle was designed to easily cruise through city streets, making steep inclines, cobblestone lanes and daily city life just a little bit more interesting to explore. With sightlines higher than those of average passenger cars, familiar neighbourhoods will seem new again and even ordinary errands are more exciting from behind the wheel, says Subaru." [Read more]

40 Years of Grip: Subaru Celebrates Birthday of its All-Wheel Drive System

Chassis 2
"Aside from a growing portfolio of updated and new models (like the BRZ), Subaru has one other thing to celebrate this year: The 40th birthday of its highly venerated all-wheel drive system.

Back in 1972 in Japan, parent company Fuji Heavy Industries introduced its first passenger vehicle equipped with all-wheel drive. Little did it know that four decades later, the system employed by the Leone Estate Van 4WD would largely define the Subaru brand and the majority of its models. All-wheel drive back then was a rudimentary technology. But even so, it was highly effective in providing much needed traction in a variety of environments and climates. Together with Subaru's now-iconic flat-type engines, all-wheel drive dramatically improved grip in performance situations as well.

Fast forward 40 years and some 11.8 million (11,782,812 units as of January 31,2012, to be precise) all-wheel drive-equipped Subarus have rolled off its many production lines around the globe. Naturally, the drivetrain has evolved over the years and is now called Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive." [Read more]

Subaru Impreza Wins 2012 MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Award for Best Compact Car

"The award comes on the heels of strong sales results from Subaru.  The brand set a sales record in 2011 and has started 2012 with sales up 21% over the previous year.

"It is an honor to receive the award for best compact car from MotorWeek," Thomas J. Doll, executive vice president and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. "We are very excited about the all-new Impreza and we feel it is a game-changer for Subaru in the compact segment. In fact, Impreza sales in January were up 175-percent. We are pleased to bring our customers a car that packages safety, fun and function."

All new for 2012, the Subaru Impreza is equipped as standard with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Powered by a 148-hp 2.0-liter Boxer engine, the 2012 Impreza comes with a choice of a five-speed manual transmission or the enhanced, second-generation Lineartronic® CVT (continuously variable transmission). The 2012 Impreza offers the highest fuel economy of any all-wheel drive car in America, with EPA ratings of 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway for models with the CVT.
"With its 2012 re-design, we think the Subaru Impreza is primed for prime time," said John Davis, MotorWeekhost.  "No other compact comes close to the Impreza's mix of standard all-wheel-drive, upscale interior, and near bargain pricing. Add in a fun-to-drive steering feel, plus a big jump in fuel economy, and you've got a four-season winner."[Read more]

Preview: 2013 Subaru BRZ

Preview: 2013 Subaru BRZ car previews
"It all started in 2007 with a group of rogue Subaru engineers in their version of a ‘skunk works’ department. They wanted to see how a Subaru with a very low centre of gravity would perform.  A test mule based on a shortened legacy chassis was created and the engine was dropped as low as it could go.  Impressed with their progress, the engineering team invited executives from both Subaru and recent investor Toyota to see how this RWD concept drove.  Although initially tentative, a second mule was created from an Impreza platform and spy shots began to show up on the internet like it was Lindsay Lohan fresh off a bender.  History was made and one of the longest and most hyped vehicle developments began.
If automobiles are anything more than a passing interest to you, you have surely heard of the Subaru BRZ by now; maybe not with that name specifically, but perhaps as the Scion FR-S, Toyota GT 86, Toyota FT-86 or Toyobaru.  The name BRZ stands for Boxer (as in the engine configuration), Rear-wheel drive and Zenith (as in the height of achievement) and there you have the idea behind this car.  Subaru feels this car new also fits in with their current “Confidence in Motion” marketing campaign as it is a back to basics sports car. Specs and numbers were never the main focus for this car; intuitive driving feel was the goal." [Read more]
